Between Montepulciano and the Val d'Orcia, a historic 19th-century villa becomes the ideal place to enjoy authentic holidays and experiences in the heart of Tuscany, amidst UNESCO-listed landscapes, gastronomic traditions, and the art of Italian hospitality.

There are places that are discovered slowly, and others that seem to welcome you from the first moment. Villa Pianoia belongs to this second category. Nestled among the rolling hills of Tuscany, a few minutes away from Montepulciano and overlooking the timeless landscapes of the Val d'Orcia, this historic home tells a story of family, memory and discreet beauty.

Here, the landscape is the one that has made Tuscany famous worldwide: white roads winding through vineyards, rows of cypress trees marking the horizon, and hills that change color with the seasons. In this almost cinematic setting, Villa Pianoia emerges with the natural elegance of homes that have stood the test of time without losing their soul.

Today the property represents a historic villa in Val d'Orcia where to spend holidays between Montepulciano and the Val d'Orcia, in a context that combines landscape, memory and hospitality.

A 19th-century residence that spans history

The origins of Villa Pianoia They date back to the 19th century, when the property was a manor house surrounded by farmland. Next to the villa, the farmer's house still stands, where you can see a perfectly restored stone manger, a tangible testimony to the rural life that defined this area for centuries.

Like many historic Italian homes, Villa Pianoia also experienced difficult moments in twentieth-century history. During World War II, it was occupied first by partisans and then by fascists. These events left subtle traces within the walls and contribute today to creating an authentic atmosphere that is difficult to replicate elsewhere.

In the seventies the villa entered the life of Archangel Iapicca, an entrepreneur originally from Southern Italy who discovered these hills when Tuscany was still far from the major international tourist circuits. At that time, the area was not yet a global destination, but a quiet, unspoiled landscape where life flowed at a slow pace.

Arcangelo immediately fell in love with this place. He saw in these hills something many hadn't yet grasped: a rare balance between nature, culture, and tranquility.

So he decided to buy the property and transform it into his summer home, a place where he could gather family and friends and return every year to experience the authentic rhythm of the Tuscan countryside.

A family legacy and the restoration of the villa

Arcangelo's grandson, who shares his name, also grew up in these rooms. His memories are tied to small, everyday gestures: the ancient bells that rang at dawn to wake him, lunches in the stone kitchen built by local artisans, days spent in the internal courtyard where life followed a different rhythm.

After my grandfather's long illness, the villa was closed for several years. Time began to take its toll on the rooms, but the house still retained its history intact.

Upon his passing, Arcangelo made a clear choice: he left the villa directly to his nephew, skipping a generation. A gesture that transformed the family home into a responsibility and, at the same time, a project.

At twenty-five, the young heir faced a crucial decision: let the villa remain a memory of the past or bring it back to life. He chose the latter.

The renovation was long and complex, adhering to all the Fine Arts regulations while preserving the original architectural elements. The terracotta floors, antique beams, doors, and many furnishings that belonged to the grandfather were restored.

Alongside these historic elements, a few contemporary additions have been carefully chosen to bring a fresh feel to the spaces without altering their character. The result is an elegant yet welcoming home, where design interacts with the traditional architecture of the Tuscan countryside.

Villa Pianoia retains the atmosphere of a lived-in home, far from the idea of a museum-like residence: the spaces retain the warmth of everyday life, where beauty is not on display but simply part of the experience. The spaces are spacious yet intimate, designed to welcome guests who wish to experience Tuscany at a leisurely pace, away from the hustle and bustle of tourism.

Authentic holidays and experiences in Montepulciano and the Val d'Orcia

The villa's location allows you to easily explore one of the most fascinating areas of Tuscany. Val d'Orcia, recognized as a world heritage site by the’UNESCO, is located just two kilometers from the property and offers a landscape of rolling hills, scenic roads and historic villages.

Also within a short distance is Montepulciano, famous for its Renaissance center and for the production of its wine, one of the great Italian reds.

Villa Pianoia is an ideal base for those who wish to discover what to do in Val d'Orcia, alternating moments of relaxation in the quiet of the countryside with experiences linked to the gastronomic culture and the local area.

Guests can take pizza or fresh pasta-making classes in the villa's historic kitchens, learning traditional Italian techniques directly from those who have passed them down through the generations. Evenings can transform into sunset dinners prepared by a private chef, where local products take center stage in menus showcasing contemporary Tuscan cuisine.

Among the most popular activities is truffle hunting in the surrounding woods, guided by local experts. After the hunt, the truffles are often tasted right at the villa, transforming the day into a true gastronomic journey.

For those who love to explore the landscape, the hills around the property are perfect for cycling excursions among vineyards and panoramic roads, while the historic cellars of the area offer tastings dedicated to Nobile di Montepulciano Wine.

Villa Pianoia still retains the soul of a family home. Here, the past coexists spontaneously with the present, amid memories preserved in the rooms, landscapes that change with the seasons, and a hospitality born from a real history, even more than a project.

A discreet retreat in the hills, where time slows down and beauty becomes part of everyday life.
