Ten years ago, Ersilia left her beloved Avellino to face new adventures and challenges in Australia.<\/strong> Seeking opportunities and a different life, she settled in the vast and diverse Australian continent. However, the Covid-19 pandemic made her journey even more arduous. Like many, Ersilia also had to confront the difficulties and uncertainty brought on by the global health crisis.<\/p>\n

Once the Covid emergency was over and the borders reopened, Ersilia decided to return to Italy for a short time in early 2022, eager to reconnect with her roots. But when she returned to Australia, intent on wrapping up any remaining unfinished business and saying goodbye to the country that had welcomed her, she had a revelation.<\/p>\n

Ersilia realized she was rereading the same "book" of her life, but with fresh eyes. She saw Australia in a different light, with a renewed awareness and appreciation for the opportunities it still had to offer. <\/strong>This new perspective led her to consider a further challenge: applying for a job at Rio Tinto's mines, located in the Western Australian desert. In such a hostile environment, Ersilia found a unique opportunity.<\/p>\n

Hired to welcome and assist the residents of the mining village, Ersilia immersed herself in a world of strict rules and hard work. With 12-hour shifts and a \u201cfly in and fly out\u201d system that involves two consecutive work weeks followed by a week off, life in the mine is a constant test of physical and mental endurance.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Despite the difficulties, Ersilia isn't discouraged. On the contrary, her experience in the Australian desert has ignited in her a desire to take on new challenges. When I ask her what her plans are for the future, her voice breaks with emotion. "The South Pole," she replies without hesitation. His next ambition is an expedition to the frozen wastes of Antarctica, where oil hides beneath layers of ice and temperatures drop to minus 47 degrees.<\/strong><\/p>\n
